Meet Mark Elbag, head coach and co-founder of Allez Fencing Club. Learn about his inclusive coaching philosophy and 20+ years of helping fencers grow into confident, authentic athletes.
Hi, we’re Mark and Jimmy, cofounders of Allez Fencing Club. We started Allez because we saw a chance to create something different. One that welcomes beginners, challenges competitive athletes, and supports every fencer’s journey with purpose, passion, and possibility. We believe fencing should be more than a sport. It should be a place to grow.
If we could build the ideal fencing club from the ground up, what would it look like?
The answer came quickly. We wanted to create something better.
As a coach (Mark), I’ve Mark has spent over 20 years as a coach, helping athletes grow develop—from their very first lesson to competing on the national stage. national-level competition. As a fencing parent (Jimmy), Jimmy, as a fencing parent, has seen the sport from a different angle I’ve seen what the experience looks like from the outside: unclear development paths, limited access, and a focus on just a few athletes.—where the path forward is often unclear, access is limited, and the focus tends to be on just a few athletes.
So we tried to build a place that feels different—clear, supportive, and built to last.
So we built Allez to be something different. A place that is welcoming, transparent, and built to support every fencer’s journey, every step of the way.
Allez is located in Watertown and has 15 full-length strips, an open layout, and about 5,000 square feet of space. It’s designed so athletes can move freely and focus, while coaches have a full view of what’s happening. There’s space for strength and footwork training, plus areas where parents can watch comfortably.
We tried to make it functional and clean—without making it feel cold or sterile. We want people to feel like they can settle in here, whether they’re training hard or just starting out.
We coach kids, teens, and adults. Some are just starting out, others are already competing at a high level. Mark’s approach is rooted in individual growth, making sure every fencer gets what they need. This means building a strong foundation or sharpening technical and mental skills for competition.
We do not rush people ahead, and we do not hold them back. The goal is steady, sustainable progress that meets each fencer where they are and helps them move forward with confidence
At its core, Allez is about helping people grow—not just in fencing, but in focus, confidence, and how they handle challenges.
We care about results, but we care just as much about how people feel along the way.
If that sounds like what you are looking for, we would love for you to stop by and experience it for yourself.
